^w^ It is only in the last few years that we have attempted to study shark behavior, and little is known.

^w^ Sharks are difficult to study because they are generally shy, wide ranging and live in a concealing environment; the species of most interest to the public can be dangerous. 

^w^ We know that sharks are relatively intelligent animals and capable of rapid learning. 

^w^ Understanding shark behavior can be important to fisherman, divers --  anyone swimming in the ocean, and anyone concerned with preserving the health of the oceans.
